Supporting Menopause Awareness at BEC

At Dandelion Coaching, we pride ourselves on delivering tailored menopause awareness and support sessions that align with the unique needs of organizations. Recently, we had the privilege of collaborating with BEC, an organization committed to fostering a menopause-friendly workplace. This partnership aimed to complement the outstanding work of their Menopause Champion, Elaine, who was undertaking menopause accreditation to enhance workplace inclusivity and support.

A Community-Wide Approach

Our initial engagement with BEC involved hosting an informative Lunch and Learn session, which was open to the entire business community based at the science park that BEC operates. The response was fantastic, with strong attendance from a diverse group of employees. This opportunity allowed us to extend menopause awareness beyond the immediate workplace, engaging the wider business community in meaningful conversations about menopause and its impact.

Deepening the Learning Experience

Following the success of the Lunch and Learn, we returned to deliver an in-depth training session tailored specifically for BEC’s internal team. This session covered all aspects of menopause, including its background, economic and personal impacts, symptoms, and strategies for adaptation and thriving.

As is often the case, the training was attended by both male and female employees a crucial factor in fostering genuine understanding and workplace inclusivity. When partners, colleagues, and managers increase their knowledge, they can provide meaningful support to those experiencing menopause, ensuring no one is left out of the conversation.

Strengthening Internal Initiatives

The training provided a platform for open discussion and knowledge sharing, reinforcing the excellent menopause and wellbeing awareness work that Elaine is already embedding into the workplace. By bringing in external expertise, the session helped deepen employees’ understanding, ensuring menopause remains a priority in workplace wellbeing.

Elaine’s existing relationships and trust with staff position her as a key source of ongoing information and signposting to reliable support resources. External training sessions like ours serve to enhance her role, making menopause awareness a sustained and impactful part of workplace culture.

Next Steps: One-to-One Coaching Support

Building on this foundation, the next step is to offer one-to-one coaching for employees who would benefit from specialist guidance. Whether individuals are preparing for menopause, currently navigating perimenopause, or seeking strategies to manage symptoms in the workplace, this personalized support can make a significant difference in their wellbeing and professional confidence.

A Model for Workplace Menopause Support

BEC’s proactive approach to menopause awareness demonstrates how organizations can create inclusive, supportive environments where employees feel empowered. By combining internal initiatives with external expertise, workplaces can foster lasting cultural change, ensuring that menopause is recognised and addressed with the respect and attention it deserves.

We look forward to continuing our work with BEC and other organisations dedicated to making menopause-friendly workplaces a reality.
